Caduceus International Publishing Inc. (CIP Courses) designs and markets innovative online e-textbook course materials and exams to universities, professional schools, and health science centers worldwide. Their application guides students through a semester’s worth of coursework by providing study guides, interactive flash cards, videos, quizzes and exams with real time progress updates and grading. Hatton Point was brought in to replace their existing desktop-focused interface with a mobile friendly, responsive user experience.
The Hatton Point team’s first step was to fly the CIP Courses lead developer out to the Denver office to work side by side with their Senior Developers. The client’s developer spent a week with the team, paired-coding and ramping up on the latest modern web practices. Next, the Hatton Point team divided up the requisite work. The front end Angular and Bootstrap work stayed with Hatton Point’s experts while the CIP Courses team stayed within their comfort zone on the database and backend services. The two teams worked very closely through Hatton Point’s six step process to deliver working code regularly. Feedback was collected from beta users to make adjustments quickly throughout the development phase.

Hatton Point and the CIP Courses team hit the target. The updated, mobile-friendly UI was released to students and teachers for the Summer 2016 semester. Throughout the following year, student enrollment in the courses increased by 20%. The feedback from students was positive now that they could access course materials, study guides and take exams wherever they felt most comfortable on any of their devices. CIP Courses was transformed over a year to a scalable platform that doesn’t lock students to their desks.
